Dr Jean Ayer is a Consultant Dermatologist and Senior Clinical Lecturer.
She was awarded her Medical Degree by Imperial College, London, with an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Health Management. She underwent general medical training at a number of world-renowned teaching hospitals in London and then completed her Dermatology higher specialist training in Manchester. She was awarded her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Dermatology and is on the GMC Specialist Register.
Dr Ayer has a strong research background after and has been awarded a number of prestigious national prizes and grants. She was given funding by the British Association of Dermatologists to conduct skin research at the University of California, San Francisco. She was awarded her Medical Doctorate by the University of Manchester for her work on photoageing and non-melanoma skin cancer. She continues to publish and present her research both nationally and internationally and is a reviewer and editor for dermatological journals and books. She has publications in the fields of cosmetic and medical dermatology in international peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Ayer is trained in both Paediatric and Adult Dermatology. She works as a substantive NHS Consultant at Vernova Health Care, and also at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, where she is a specialist in Photodermatology. She is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester.
